HUA WELEWEKA

All velvet seed jewelry is hand made by us in Hawai'i with aloha. The Hua Weleweka  (Mgambo seed) tree produces beautiful bright fuchsia seed pods that open each year to reveal its impressive velvet-like seeds.  Its nickname is 'forever velvet' because the velvet feel on the seeds last a lifetime as each seed is carefully hand harvested at the right time by a local Kona farmer. Unless you know someone growing a tree, they are very rare to come by.

In Hawai'i, Hua Weleweka regal display of Hawaiian culture is Weleweka jewelry and lei making.  Hula dancers use the seeds for competition attire as well as pa'u riders, princess horse riders of each island for the Aloha Festivals Ho'olaule'a Parade every year.

Chelsea's paternal grandfather, Clarence, would create velvet seed lei and necklace for her mother, Loreen, who has a Merrie Monarch Festival dancer and grew up as a competitive dancer traveling to Japan and Australia. Our hearts are filled with joy as each one-of-a-kind piece finds a new home. Mahalo Nui for supporting our family tradition and being a part of perpetuating Hawaiian culture.
